As I Lay Dyingis a Christian metalcoreband currently signed to Metal Blade Records. The band is most accurately described as metalcore, fusing elements of metaland hardcoremusic. As I Lay Dying was formed in 2001 in San Diego, California. Soon after their formation, the band signed with Pluto Records and released their first full-length album, Beneath the Encasing of Ashesin June of 2001. In 2002, the band recorded additional songs for a split CD with American Tragedy, also released on Pluto Records.
